Registration fees are divided into six categories:
Category S Silks, Law Firm Partners & Overseas Participants
Category A Senior Clerks, barristers over 15 years call (called to the Bar before the 1st October 1985) & solicitors
Category B Barristers over 7 years call (called to the Bar between 1st October 1985 and 1st October 1993)
Category C Junior Clerks; barristers over 3 years call (called to the Bar between 1st October 1993 and 1st October 1997)
Category D Barristers under 3 years call (called to the Bar after the 1st October 1997)
Category P Pupils and non-tenants In recognition of the fact that it is more expensive for circuiteers to attend the conference, a concession of broadly 10% is being extended to those whose professional base and practice is outside London and the South East, as well as GLS, CPS and Employed Bar.

A special single workshop fee of £100.00 + VAT (£17.50) is available to members of the Institute. A separate registration form should be completed which can be obtained by contacting BCM Events on 020 7722 9731. The special fee includes attendance at workshop D or G, conference documentation and lunch. Members of the Institute are welcome at the whole conference and may register under Category A (senior clerks) or Category C (junior clerks) using the registration form in this brochure. Barristers Clerks may invite, as a guest, a professional client (e.g. solicitor or direct professional access client) to attend the lunch and afternoon workshop session also at a cost of £100.00 + VAT (£17.50). Space is limited so please apply early.
Attendance by the Employed Bar, Crown Prosecution Service and Government Legal Service is welcomed and registration fees are shown under the reduced Circuits section on the registration grid.
In addition, should you manage to encourage three others to attend and register at the same time, a further 10% reduction will be applied.

Should it be necessary to cancel a registration, fees (less £60.00 administration charge) will be refunded if notification, in writing, reaches the organisers, BCM Events, by Friday 29th September 2000. Substitutions are accepted at any time. Pupils fees are not refundable.
New practitioners are required to undertake a minimum of 42 hours of Continuing Professional Development in the first three years of practice. The programme undertaken must include case preparation and procedure (18 hours), substantive law and training (15 hours), ethics (3 hours) and advocacy training (6 hours). The Bar Conference reception will be held in the Benjamin Britten Lounge of the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre at 5.30 pm. Distinguished invited guests include the Lord Chancellor, the Lord Chief Justice, the Master of the Rolls, the President of the Family Division, The Vice Chancellor, the Attorney General, the Solicitor General and other leaders in the law.
During the reception, awards will be presented to the Journalist of the Year and prizes awarded by the Bar Pro Bono Group to be presented by the Chairman of the Bar.
Overseas participants are welcome to attend the conference. The number of places available is limited, however, and early registration is recommended. All sessions will be conducted in English. No simultaneous translation will be provided.
The organisers have requested transcripts of speakers' papers in advance of the conference. Copies of papers received by 30th September 2000 will be distributed at or after the individual sessions. Please assist the organisers by stating the sessions you wish to attend on section 3 of the registration form. Participants wishing to obtain copies of the papers delivered at the sessions they have not attended may order copies during the conference which will be supplied afterwards for a small fee. |
